The location for this seminar is the University of Kentucky, Department of Physics and Astronomy

This course is specially designed for middle level teachers who are teaching physical science for the first time or those needing to brush up their physical science knowledge and teaching skills.   The instruction will be a balance between science content and inquiry, and participants will have access to DVD and web content they can use during the year.  Accommodations will be in UK area hotels, with a variety of excursions/side trips to local areas of interest.

The seminar involves a captivating series of physical science courses presented by Dr. Joseph Straley and Sally Shafer (Department of Physics/Astronomy, University of Kentucky). These highly experienced physical science professionals have worked with hundreds of teachers in Kentucky, as well as in many other states. Topics covered include an investigation of light/color and spectrum focusing on light and shadows, light beams, how light interacts with matter, as well as color, making a spectroscope, spectra, additive and subtractive coloration, and an investigation of florescence. Also explore reflection and refraction, Snell’s Law, and learn how cameras are made. Other interesting areas of this seminar include heat and temperature, and force and motion.
